2015

Bloomberg: As of April 2016, CEMEX scored the highest in ESG disclosure by Bloomberg among the peers in the international cement industry as well as within the constituents of the Mexican Stock Exchange Sustainability Index

Fortune’s Change the World list:: Thanks to the Patrimonio Hoy program, in 2015 CEMEX was included in Fortune’s Change the World list, ranking that recognizes 50 companies worldwide that have made a sizable impact on major global social or environmental problems as part of their strategy. Selected from more than 200 nominees, CEMEX secured 16th place and is the only Latin-American based company on the list and the only organization from the construction materials sector.


2014

Sustainability Stock Index:: CEMEX stands as the sole Mexico-based company selected for the UN Global Compact 100, a global stock index that combines sustainability and financial performance.


2013

American Chamber of Commerce Social Business Responsibility Award: CEMEX received the American Chamber of Commerce’s Social Business Responsibility award for our Patrimonio Hoy program. The program has contributed to building 13,994 square meters of houses, fences, slabs and other housing elements.

CCA Award: Assisted Self-Construction Integral Program (PIAC) received a Corporate Citizen of the Americas (CCA) 2012/2013 award for Public Safety by the Foundation for the Americas, with support from the Organization of American States, the Inter- American Development Bank and AES Corporation. The award recognizes CEMEX’s commitment to achieving safer communities.

Gold Stevie Award: CEMEX received the Gold Stevie award in the Management Issues category out of more than 3,300 applicants. The award is endorsed by the International Business Award and is the highest award in its category, representing our dedicated efforts to crisis management.

National Award for Cleaner Production: For the second consecutive year, CEMEX received the National Award for Cleaner Production in the Materials category from the Ministry of the Environment.


2011

The Trust for the Americas and Organization of American States Award: CEMEX has been recognized with the 2010 Corporate Citizen of the Americas Award in the Economic Opportunity Category, given by the Association of American States (OAS) and the Trust for the Americas, for the positive social impact of its Centros Productivos de Autoempleo (Productive Selfemployment Centers) program.


2010

World Business and Development Awards: by the United Nations Development Program, the International Chamber of Commerce, and the International Business Leader Fund recognized CEMEX for its contributions to achieving the Millennium Development Goals through programs that foster and facilitate development, including Centros Productivos de Autoempleo.

Forrester Groundswell Award in Management–Collaboration System: category recognized CEMEX for its Shift platform. Shift uses social media—social networks, wikis, discussion groups, and other communications tools—to enable meaningful collaboration among employees around the world through the sharing of innovative ideas and best practices.

Gold Quill Award: CEMEX Mexico won the Gold Quill Award in the Issues & Crisis Management category from the International Association of Business Communicators for its SIMAC crisis strategy.

Mundo Ejecutivo Magazine Corporate Social Responsibility Ranking: CEMEX Mexico was ranked first in Corporate Social Responsibility by the Mundo Ejecutivo Magazine. The ranking is audited by the Anahuac University IDEARSE Center. The recognition was obtained for more than 25 years of achievements such as: Being the first one to implement ISO 26000 in Mexico, reducing 137,000 tons of CO 2 , enrolling 2,600 children in football academies and having 7,000 volunteers for social development activities.

Philippines

Green Choice Award: CEMEX in Philippines was the first and only Filipino cement company to be awarded the Green Choice Seal, a voluntary eco-labeling initiative sponsored by the Philippine government. The program awards a company a seal of approval for environmentally preferred products or services.

United Kingdom / Spain

UEPG Biodiversity Awards: Two CEMEX sites received recognition for their con - tributions to biodiversity by the European Aggregates Association (UEPG). CEMEX’s Rugeley Quarry in the UK received a Recognition of Achievement for its restor - ative work and habitat management. The company’s Soto Pajares quarry in Spain earned the Special Award for Biodiversity for its actions related to the protection, en - hancement and creation of key habitats for crucial species.

United States

NSSGA’s Environmental and Community Relations Excellence Awards: Three CEMEX sites in the U.S. won Gold Awards at the National Sand, Stone & Gravel Association’s (NSSGA) Safety, Environmental and Community Relations Excellence Awards. The company’s operations in New Braunfels, Texas; La Luz, New Mexico; and El Paso, Texas received recognition for their environmental excellence.

PCA’s Environment and Energy Awards: Three of CEMEX’s sites in the U.S. received recognition for their commitment to improving the environment and their communities at the Portland Cement Association’s 12th Annual Cement Industry Environment and Energy Awards. CEMEX in Brooksville, Florida received the Land Stewardship Award, CEMEX in New Braunfels, Texas garnered the Innovation Award and CEMEX in Victorville, California earned the Energy Efficiency Award.

France

Afnor Certification: CEMEX in France was the first company in its sector of activity to obtain the “Maturity” level by the Afnor Certification Organization. The certificate recognizes the social responsibility of companies in relation to the ISO 26000 standard.

French Ministry for Ecology Recognition: CEMEX in France received official recognition by the French Ministry responsible for ecology for its environmental commitment to certify 183 quarries and ready-mix concrete production units, in line with ISO 14001 standard.

Israel

The Council for a Beautiful Israel “Stars of Beauty” Awards: CEMEX in Israel’s Modiim aggregates quarry was awarded the maximum five “stars of beauty” and the Golani quarry received four stars by the Council for a Beautiful Israel. The award recognizes companies that encourage quality of life, ecological preservation and sustainability within the Israeli industrial sector.

Latin America

CDP Outstanding Carbon Disclosure in Latin America: CEMEX ranked number one in the Carbon Disclosure Project’s (CDP) report on 32 major companies throughout Latin America in terms of climate change data disclosure and was one of the top ten in overall carbon emissions performance.

Latvia

Latvian Sustainability Index 2012: CEMEX in Latvia won a silver award in the Sustainability Index 2012 and received the “Power of the Region” prize for environmental agency in the sustainable development of society and the region.

Mexico

Mundo Ejecutivo Social Responsibility Award: CEMEX was awarded for its high social responsibility score in Mexico’s Universidad Anahuac del Norte survey of sustainability. The award recognizes environmental, social and human rights efforts.

Poland

Golden Pillar of Construction Sector Award: CEMEX in Poland won the Golden Pillar of Construction Sector award at the “Your House” International Construction Trade Show in southern Poland. The award acknowledged CEMEX’s innovative approach to the reduction of CO2 in concrete production and its commitment to high product quality.

Spain

National Biodiversity and Sustainable Development 2012: CEMEX’s SotoPajares gravel quarry in Spain was honored by the Federation of Aggregates with the highest award in the category of “Biodiversity and Sustainable Development” for 2012. The award recognizes CEMEX’s efforts to preserve the environment in the midst of mining and industrial development.

United States

Energy Star® Certification: Five of CEMEX’S sites in the USA have earned ENERGY STAR® certification with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for superior performance in energy efficiency. The five sites are cement manufacturing plants in California, Florida, Georgia and Ohio.

PCA’s Overall Environmental Excellence Award: CEMEX’s Louisville, Kentucky plant, the Kosmos Cement Company, was named the recipient of the Portland Cement Associations Overall Environmental Excellence Award for 2012 in recognition for its wide range of innovative initiatives in land stewardship, energy efficiency, community outreach and overall environmental excellence. The plant also received recognition in the Energy Efficiency, Innovation and Land Stewardship categories.

Wildlife Habitat Council Certification: Five of CEMEX’s sites in the USA have earned certification with the Wildlife Habitat Council for superior management of wildlife enhancement and land conservation projects. The five sites are cement manufacturing plants in Fairborn, Ohio; Louisville, Kentucky; and the FEC Quarry, 474 Sand Mine, and Brooksville Quarry in Florida.

Wildlife Habitat Council for Education: Eight of CEMEX’s sites in the USA have received certification through the Wildlife Habitat Council’s Corporate Lands for Learning and Wildlife at Work Programs. The company’s operations in Knoxville, Tennessee; Lyons, Colorado; and in Brooksville, Miami, Clermont, Davenport, Lake Wales and Center Hill, Florida, received recognition for creating, conserving, and restoring their habitat with the involvement of employees and members of the community.

Austrian Ministry of Social Affairs Health & Safety Award: CEMEX in Austria was awarded the second prize for Health & Safety from the Austrian Minister of Social Affairs for its project “Stress management—integral part of employee motivation and accident prevention.”

China

Golden Carbon Award: CEMEX in China won the highest honor, The Golden Carbon Award, in the “Environment-Friendly Building Solutions” category at the first environmental protection innovation ideas competition, held at Qingdao Technological University.

Croatia

Croatia Index of Socially Responsible Business: For the third time, the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the Croatian Business Council for Sustainable Development named CEMEX in Croatia to the Index of Socially Responsible Business.

Dominican Republic

Mercado Magazine Best Place to Work Award: CEMEX has been named the best place to work in the Dominican Republic by Mercado Magazine after an assessment which took into account a reader poll and the opinions of a group of experts who weighed organizational culture, policies and practices, and human resources processes.

France

UNICEM Biodiversity Certificate: A CEMEX aggregates quarry in central France was awarded the first Biodiversity Certificate by the French aggregates association, UNICEM. The certificate recognizes numerous activities to promote biodiversity in the quarry as well as efforts to raise awareness about preserving local wildlife.

Israel

Council for a Beautiful Israel “Five Stars of Beauty” Award: CEMEX in Israel’s Modi’im aggregates quarry was awarded the “Five Stars of Beauty” designation by the Council for a Beautiful Israel, a non-profit public organization whose aim is to improve the quality of life in Israel through preservation of the environment.

Mexico

CEMEFI Recognition: CEMEFI, the Mexican Center for Philanthropy, recognized CEMEX for the CEMEX-TEC Construction School program, created to spur economic development and micro-enterprise among low-income families through technical and administrative courses in construction.

Poland

EcoForum Conference Awards: CEMEX in Poland’s Chelm plant received two awards at the second International EcoForum Conference, held in Lublin, Poland: “Environment First,” carrying the title as an environmentally friendly company; and the “Man and Company” prize, granted for introducing innovative technology to minimize the plant’s impact on the environment. In 2011, the plant also became one of the 28 elite organizations in Poland to meet the requirements of the European EcoManagement and Audit Scheme (EMAS).

United States

Wildlife Habitat Council Certification: Five of CEMEX’s sites in the USA have earned certification with the Wildlife Habitat Council for superior management of wildlife enhancement and land conservation projects. The five sites are cement manufacturing plants in Fairborn, Ohio and Louisville, Kentucky, and the FEC Quarry, 474 Sand Mine, and Brooksville Quarry in Florida.

Dayton Power & Light Rebate: CEMEX’s cement plant in Fairborn, Ohio decreased electric power consumption used for compressed air by more than half, earning the company a $226,000 rebate from Dayton Power & Light.The decrease in electricity consumption also reduces the amount of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere annually by more than 1,475 metric tons.

Environmental Protection Agency ENERGY STAR Award: The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) have awarded five of its CEMEX’s cement manufacturing plants in the United States the 2011 ENERGY STAR® award. The company’s plants in Clinchfield, GA.; Louisville, KY.; Miami, FL.; New Braunfels, TX; and Demopolis, AL. received the awards in recognition of superior energy performance. These awards mark the fifth consecutive year for the plants in Clinchfield, Ga., and Louisville, KY. to receive the award and the third consecutive year for the plant in Demopolis, Ala.
